The Bread of Life & the Life-giving Water
The food that lasts for eternal life is found exclusively in the Lord Jesus Christ. Do not chase after the decaying things of the world. But work for the everlasting spiritual food. “This is the food which the Son of Man will give you, because God, the Father, has put his mark of approval on Him.” Declares the Lord in John 6:27. In verse 50 the Lord says, “The bread that comes down from Heaven is of such a kind that whoever eats it will not die.” Christ our Lord is the Living Bread that came down from Heaven. “If anyone eats this bread, He will live for ever.” Says the Lord in verse 51.
If you haven’t eaten the bread of life yet, repent of your sins and believe on Christ – He is the bread of life. Nothing of this world can give you life, not even all the treasures of this world, nor your works. You may possess the whole world but lose your soul in the end, if you reject Christ, the bread of life. You will die and go to hell. Turn to Christ the Saviour and He will give you life. There is no other way to be right with God; there is no other way to escape God’s judgement and hell, apart from Christ. He is the only source of life, the only Lord and Saviour. Those who believe in Him are justified before God through their faith in Christ. Christ is the Life-giving Water, the Way to eternal life. Thus says the Lord in John 6:35, “I am the bread of life. Those who come to Me will never be hungry; those who believe in Me will never be thirsty.” Verse 47-48, “Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life.”
Christ came into the world and gave his life so that everyone who believes in Him may not die but have eternal life. Thus declares the Lord in verse 53, “If you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you will not have life in yourselves.” That is to say if you reject the blood of God’s covenant that sets people free, if you dishonour the Son of God, your sins will not be forgiven; you will remain under God’s judgement and be sent to hell on the last day.
Christ is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of anyone who believes in Him. Verse 54, the Lord says: “Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them to life on the last day. For my flesh is the real food; my blood is the real drink. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood live in Me, and I live in them. The Living Father sent Me, and because of Him I live also. In the same way whoever eats Me will live because of Me.”
No one is good enough to be right with God – in sin we were all conceived and in sin we all live. No one is without sin. “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23). And one sin is enough to send you to hell, unless you are clothed with Christ’s righteousness. The Lord Jesus Christ is the means by which people are justified before God. “Salvation is to be found through Him alone; in all the world there is no one else whom God has given who can save us.” (Acts 4:12). The Lord gives rest to all those who are weary and burdened by their sins and who seek his help. He died to save those who recognize that they are sinners and that they cannot save themselves from the wrath to come and who acknowledge that Christ died for their sins and thus confess Him as Lord.
Christ is the Redeemer - He came into the world to live the perfect life we can never live and He died as our substitute on Calvary, to bring forgiveness of sin to all those who put their trust in Him. If you have not turned away from your evil ways yet, I urge you to repent of your sins and believe on Christ Jesus, and He will impute his righteousness to you and bless you with everlasting life. Go down on your knees now and cry out to God. The Lord is calling anyone who is burdened by their sins, anyone who hungers and thirsts for righteousness, to turn to Him, the Bread of Life, the Fountain of Life-giving Water. Thus says the Lord God in Is. 55:1-2, “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance”
It is time for you today to humble yourself and recognize that you are a sinner, that you do not possess righteousness on your own and that you can’t save yourself. Call upon the Lord Jesus Christ, confess your sins to Him and acknowledge Him as the Lord and Saviour. Do not let pride keep you forever at enmity with God. I urge you to repent of your sins and believe the Good News of grace today. Put your trust in Christ, and all your sins – past, present, future, will be forgiven; you will be washed from your wickedness by the precious blood of Christ and numbered among God’s children, and from his hand you will receive your share of inheritance when the Lord returns in the glory of his Father with his angels to judge the world. Turn away from your sins before it is too late. As Is.55:6 states it, “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near”, for the day is coming when all those who dishonour the Lord will seek his face and shall find Him no more. But mercy and salvation are available now to everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, anyone who turns to Him in repentance and faith. Christ is the Bread of Life, the Life-giving Water, the Way to eternal life.
